Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series

Announcing The Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series

We are incredibly excited to announce the upcoming launch of the new Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series, our first new product range since the launch of our first blend and first single casks in October 2020. For the debut of the Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series, we  closely collaborated with two of the most exciting names in American single malt whiskey: Balcones Distilling in Waco, TX, and Whiskey Del Bac in Tucson, AZ.

Each release in the Single Distillery Series is a marriage of multiple casks all sourced from a single distillery. These whiskies allow us to deeply explore what makes a distillery unique and special, often by bringing together flavors in a new way and showing a new perspective on a distillery. We chose our first two distilleries for this new series very deliberately: Balcones and Whiskey Del Bac are two of the leading voices in American single malt, and both have continuously broken new ground for over a decade. We want these new limited-edition releases to appeal to whiskey enthusiasts seeking new flavor combinations and to fans of Balcones and Whiskey Del Bac excited to explore the breadth of what those distilleries have to offer.

We have put together an extensive FAQ about the new Single Distillery Series: what it is, how and when we’ll release new whiskies in the series, why we “name” the releases in the series, and more. Check it out here!

Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series: The Details

The Single Distillery Series series launches with three whiskies, all American single malts: “Gentle Giant” Balcones Distilling Texas Single Malt, “Desert Dessert” Whiskey Del Bac Arizona Single Malt, and “Mega Mesquite” Whiskey Del Bac Arizona Single Malt. All will release with suggested retail pricing of $100/750ml bottle.

The bottlings will be available for purchase starting April 26th online at LostLanternWhiskey.com and Seelbachs.com, as well as at select retailers in California, New York, and Alberta, Canada.

The new Single Distillery Series builds on our long-standing Single Cask series, which showcases unique whiskies from well-known distilleries and highlights distilleries that are otherwise difficult to access. But by bringing together several different casks, the whiskies in the Single Distillery Series allow us to explore the full range of flavor a distillery can offer. The series aims to showcase the versatility, breadth, and depth of some of our most beloved partners.

In addition, the Single Distillery Series will enable us to make our whiskey more widely available. While all the releases in the series are still limited editions, with the largest being just over 1,000 bottles, the volume of the new series will help us ensure that whiskey lovers can access our releases more easily, without fear of them selling out in just a few hours. That’s why we’re also able to start releasing these into New York and California.

2023 is shaping up to be an exciting year for Lost Lantern. In addition to releasing the new Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series, we have unveiled a new look, were named the 2023 American Independent Bottler of the Year at the Icons of Whisky Awards America in February and on March 30th we were named the global Independent Bottler of the Year at the worldwide Icons of Whisky Awards Gala in London. Thanks to the Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series, this spring will also mark the first time Lost Lantern will be available at select brick-and-mortar retailers in both New York and California.

Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series Whiskies

Now a little bit about the first three whiskies themselves, and the distilleries they came from.

Lost Lantern “Gentle Giant”

Balcones Distilling Texas Single Malt

Lost Lantern Gentle Giant

Balcones Distilling is best known for big, bold, rich whiskies born in the Texas heat, yet it also produces elegant and delicate whiskies, often aged in used oak. Gentle Giant shines a light on this side of the Texas pioneer.

Lost Lantern “Gentle Giant” Balcones Distilling Texas Single Malt is a fruit-forward whiskey with notes of fresh apple, soft oak, dry spice, and a long finish. This single malt includes whiskey aged in European oak casks, an ex-bourbon barrel, and ex-apple brandy casks. 115.2 proof, approximately 1,100 bottles.

Named “Best American Single Malt Aged Under 12 Years” at the 2023 World Whiskies Awards.

Lost Lantern “Desert Dessert” and “Mega Mesquite”

Whiskey Del Bac Arizona Single Malts

Whiskey Del Bac’s mesquite-smoked Arizona single malts are a distinctly Southwestern answer to the worldwide tradition of peated whiskies. These two releases show two markedly different sides of what mesquited whiskey can be: boldly and powerfully smoky for “Mega Mesquite,” and rich, bright, and unctuous for “Desert Dessert.”

Lost Lantern Desert Dessert

Lost Lantern “Desert Dessert” Whiskey Del Bac Arizona Single Malt

Desert Dessert is a smoky, nuanced, and elegant whiskey with notes of roasted orange, apricot, sweet nectarine, and golden raisin. Made with Whiskey Del Bac’s mesquite-smoked mashbill and partly finished in Sauternes and Pineau des Charentes casks. 113.8 proof, approximately 450 bottles, this whiskey shows off the sophistication of smoke.

Named “Best American Single Malt” at the Fall 2022 John Barleycorn Awards!

Lost Lantern “Mega Mesquite” Whiskey Del Bac Arizona Single Malt

Mega Mesquite is an intense and fiery whiskey with notes of burnt orange, full oak, fiery spice, and rich, savory smoke. A blend ofthree heavily mesquite-smoked casks, this is one of the smokiest whiskies ever to come from Whiskey Del Bac, and shows that mesquited whiskies can be just as exciting for smoke lovers as more familiar peated whiskies.

120 proof, approximately 180 bottles.

Note: Because this is the smallest of the three new releases, this whiskey will not be available in brick-and-mortar in the New York market at this time.

Together, these two whiskies from Whiskey Del Bac show that mesquited whiskey can have as much depth and range as peated whiskies, and are increasingly emerging as a distinctly Southwestern whiskey style.

Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series Launch Date

The first three entries in the Lost Lantern Single Distillery Series will launch on April 26th on our site and on Seelbach’s, and will roll out to select New York and California retailers at roughly the same time. Other releases in the series, which will range across all styles of American whiskey, will be released starting later this year.
