Best Bourbon From Outside Kentucky: Tom’s Foolery Ohio Straight Bourbon 10 Years Old Single Cask

Tom Foolery makes rye, applejack, and, of course, bourbon the old fashioned way. While it can’t be found everywhere, independent bottler Lost Lantern made the whiskey more attainable this past autumn by including it in its Fall 2024 Collection.

“Tom’s Foolery has been committed to making whiskey the old-fashioned way for many years: the small distillery’s meticulous and labor-intensive process includes the use of wooden fermenters, pot still distillation, and significantly longer aging times than we usually see from fairly young distilleries,” says Lost Lantern co-founder Adam Polonski.

But how does it taste? “Reflecting the cold, snowy climate of Ohio’s Snowbelt, [Tom’s Foolery Ohio Straight Bourbon 10 Years Old Single Cask] is less oak-forward than most Kentucky bourbons of the same age, instead exemplifying complex, warm notes of grain, fresh herbs, and autumn leaves,” Polonski says.
