We know this is going to generate controversy, so let’s just lean right in: the top-scoring bourbon this month isn’t from Kentucky—it’s a single cask made in Boulder, Colorado.

Uproxx — Twenty New Bourbons From Under-The-Radar Brands, All Under $100
Lost Lantern just dropped their spring 2022 collection of single cask selections from some seriously big hitters in the craft whiskey world. For their first edition, the bottler chose a barrel from Smooth Ambler in West Virginia. This bottling is from one 53-gallon barrel of wheated bourbon from West Virginia that’s bottled as-is without filtering or cutting down with water. That means there are only 190-odd bottles of this around.

Forbes — Ten Cool New Bourbons And Whiskies To Try Now
Rather than bottle one whiskey from one distiller, the team at Lost Lantern sources extremely rare, one-of-a-kind single casks produced by some of the finest distilleries in the United States. Since their debut in October 2020, Lost Lantern has released 22 single casks; the most recent offerings include Smooth Ambler West Virginia Straight Bourbon Whiskey and a Westward Oregon Single Malt Whiskey Finished in Chardonnay Cask. Also look for their Spirit Works California Straight Rye Whiskey Finished in a Sloe Gin Cask.

Men’s Journal — Best New American Blended Whiskey to Try Now
Single malt made by American distillers is a pretty new thing, with most producers—like Balcones, Virginia Distillery Co., and Westward Whiskey—starting up in the last 15 years or so. That makes the existence of this vatted malt—a blend of six different single malts made across the U.S., from Nantucket to Seattle, and collaboratively blended by all the distillers together—all the more impressive.

Introducing the Lost Lantern Summer Collection
We are incredibly excited to announce Lost Lantern’s very first Summer Collection! The Summer 2022 Single Cask Collection is our largest single cask collection to date, featuring seven limited-edition single casks from six celebrated craft distilleries: McCarthy’s in Oregon, Frey Ranch in Nevada, Starlight in Indiana, Dad’s Hat in Pennsylvania, St. George in California, and Balcones in Texas.
