Lost Lantern hand-selected this cask of McCarthy’s American single malt from Clear Creek distillery in Hood River, Oregon. McCarthy’s is the first American single malt, and the first one we fell in love with. Clear Creek has now made this exceptional peated american single malt for over three decades.
We are honored to present the first-ever ten year old McCarthy’s single cask, the oldest whiskey the distillery has ever released. Made from heavily peated malt, it was aged for ten years in a 400-liter fourth-fill Oregon (Garryana) oak cask. It has herbal, inky smoke on the nose, with hints of dried blueberries and black raspberries. The palate is dark and smoky, with notes of leather, balanced oak, and campfire smoke. Very smoky, with tremendous depth.

About McCarthy’s / Clear Creek Distillery
Clear Creek Distillery, which makes McCarthy’s Oregon single malt, is one of the oldest craft distilleries in the country, and possibly the oldest outside of California. Founded in Portland in the 1990s, Clear Creek has always been a brandy distillery as well as a whiskey distillery, and the distillery moved to Hood River in the heart of Oregon fruit country in the 2010s. We love everything Clear Creek makes, but its flagship whiskey, McCarthy’s Oregon single malt, holds a special place in our hearts. We believe it was the very first American single malt whiskey, and it has been around for almost three decades. Through McCarthy’s, Clear Creek helped to establish the very idea of American single malt whiskey, and it has set a very high standard.
